Core Process Psychotherapy
Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP) is the original mindfulness-based psychotherapy in the UK. Its' training is fully accredited by the UKCP.
CPP is a synthesis of Buddhist understanding of the nature of mind and western psychodynamic theory of individual development. The word 'Core' describes our innate goodness and joyfulness at the heart of who we are. 'Process' refers to how, over time, this fundamental essence may become obscured by patterns of behaviour and being, that lead us to become identified with suffering and limitation.
By bringing the awakening potential of meditation into the relationship between client and therapist, CPP can help with all the innumerable ways we suffer.
In CPP it is acknowledged that the therapeutic model is not the determining factor that facilitates change but rather it is the quality of therapeutic relationship. Most of our wounding has occurred through our relationships and it is through a relationship with a compassionate, non-judgemental other that these wounds heal. The presence and care of a therapist can allow one to open to feelings that would otherwise be too painful to bear. Once these painful feelings are openly and empathically received then, with clarity and awareness, positive change is possible.
Considering the importance of the relationship, CPP therapists are trained not to hide behind a professional mask or specialist models of knowledge, but rather to fully embody their humanity and authenticity - to rest in the Core of their own being. In this way, a heart connection is forged with clients. This enables a process of healing and growth to naturally emerge.
