This is an article I wrote for the Counselling Directory website. Assessing and working with suicide is something I have a lot of experience with in my role as a mental health nurse in the NHS. It is my aim to bring this knowledge base into my private psychotherapy practice.
In this blog I explore the notion of spells as unconscious stories or narratives that shape our lived experience. Our culture and society distorts the way we perceive ourselves and the world. Psychotherapy necessitates re-aligning ourselves with the truth of who we are.
This is an article I wrote for counselling directory. In it I outline James Hillmans Acorn theory of Soul and how this is a useful myth that can be applied to psychotherapy to find meaning in our distress. I stress that each one of us has our own unique calling to fulfil, lessons to learn and image to grow into.
The Power of Dreams: A brief foray into symbolism and profound meaning.
I find dreams fascinating. They can offer us valuable insights into the inner most workings of our psyche. Dreams guide us towards balance, coherence and authenticity. By taking notice of our dreams they can reveal what is happening beneath the surface of our everyday consciousness. I argue that dreams are always on our side - they want what's best for us. Dreams show us what needs to be integrated and can provide comfort in times of distress. In this blog I use two examples of my own dreams to demonstrate this.
